Swept Away

Death happens in many forms. Whether face a physical death, an emotional death, or a spiritual death we must grieve and resurrect a new version of ourselves from the experience – whether it be here in this existence or in whatever comes next.

I’ve stood on the banks
of death and watched life
slip away, taken fast
on an unstoppable current –
broken flags waving surrender
to a darkening sky of eyes
closing for the last time.
Plentiful sunsets are taken
for granted in this world of
watered-down appreciation.
In last moments expelled breaths
hold all we have ever been –
air heavy with remnants of soul
searching for a place
to surface once again.

Moving On

Moving On

Move on like you don’t have a past –
as if every decision made
in the grand scheme of things,
no longer matters.
Treat yesterday as a memory
from a book read beneath a tree
in the height of a lazy summer.

Move on like you don’t have a future –
as if every plan you ever made
has been sent back to the drawing board
of your dreams.
Lift your pen and write the words
waiting to be said and lived.
This is moving on.

The past month has brought irrevocable change to my life. I don’t see any other way to move forward except to reconfigure everything I thought I knew. So here I go… pen of my soul back to the drawing board.

Onward

Step off the cliff
Free
   fall
      into
         nothing…
Ignore
the inevitable mist
obscuring
the unknown
below.

Fall
with cat-like agility;
keen senses
beyond sight
are required when
passing through
blinding emotions.

Land
with feet planted;
stable yet
adept in movement
to enable decisions
when a path
comes into view.

Step away from loss
walk
   strong
      into
         life…
Ignore
the inevitable pain
obscuring
the ability
to move on.

Pain can be used as a catalyst, momentum to set a path of change towards new and greater things. If we let it….

Stars

file0001317022358

Fate, destiny, kismet, your calling, your mission in this life – call it what you will, I believe every one of us has a purpose here on this earth. It is up to us to figure out why we are here. Once we know, it is our job to fulfill our purpose. Very rarely does fate give us exactly what we need. No, we must search out our path, forge our way, create movement forward towards our goals! Destiny is made – not found. Once we start on our path amazing things can and will happen to aid us on our journey. But we must begin the journey! Your destiny is YOURS. Go write your own stars.

Ripples

Your tears became
a sea in which
you could not swim
Ripples formed
travelling from you
on to the ocean of us
Your ripples
became ours
And ours
yours
Nothing goes
unnoticed
We all
leave ripples –
for better
or for worse

This week a friend of mine tried to take his own life. In his sorrow I am sure he didn’t realize his value in the eyes of the people around him, that he didn’t realize his actions would effect so many like it did – love from all over the world poured in on his facebook page. All of this caused me to think of the theory of the ripple effect, how we are all connected, how our actions influence others – how everything matters! There was a time I tried to take my own life. Many, many years later I can look back and see the ripples created by a life I lived instead of a life I almost ended. My mistakes and failures have created ripples, my life has effected everyone around me in ways I see and in many ways I am sure I don’t understand or might never even know. This week has been a reminder to create ripples of good intentions, to give, to love, and to live.
