Little Girl by Nikki Anne Schmutz

Thank you, Reuben Woolley for publishing my poem in your magazine. You are doing incredible things, speaking out against abuse through the arts!

I am not a silent poet

I failed you

You were led to the shearing

one too many times

Innocence taken

broken and bereft of worth

Left without a voice

to speak pain into health

Left without eyes

to see a path of hope

Left without doors

to open an escape

Left without love

or any safe place

I failed you

But I’m here now

comforting the little girl

who grew into an adult

Allowing the little me

to cry and be free
