Beyond Today

Beyond Today

What we think right now, in this moment, determines our actions in the moments to come. Life is a domino effect, set up the path they fall in a direction leading to your dreams!

~ Nikki Anne Schmutz

The sun was a privilege she did not know.
She existed in the shadows
where her demons creeped about her feet,
speaking lies only she could hear.
Cautiously, she watched the world beyond.

Each day the sun beckoned to her
with brightness promising sublime
warmth and smiles offering change.
She reached her hand out, a little at a time,
inching towards possibilities dreamed of.

Purpose encouraged her heart.
From the darkness she stepped forth,
fearing the light of the sun.
With closed eyes she stood still
waiting to be consumed by it all – she wasn’t.

From the darkness she extricated
the “unworthy” fragments,
gathered the broken pieces,
exposed the dirty unkempt secrets sold
as lies told to her, lies she told herself.

She laid them out to be
illuminated by the sun, exposed
as fatal flaws – she held her breath.
Was she ready? No.
Would she ever be ready? No.

In the sunlight she examines it all –
piece by piece, part after part,
secret after secret – and her heart speaks,
“The darkness is the lie,
your flaws hold beauty to be embraced.”

We Are

As waves of the ocean
set upon by the moon,
life happens….

Moved upon as emotion,
set forth as action
hearts react….

We make intent known,
bring about reactions,
bodies act….

Happenstance? No.
We are what we are
words, actions, wants, needs
rolled into our being.

and equations equal
all we are
and can be.

Whole. Parts. Us.

We are.

Beyond My Wreath Clad Door

Beyond my Wreath Clad Door

If I were to have a Christmas
Unlike one before
I’d invite you all inside
Beyond my wreath clad door

Once inside I’d take your coats
Make you comfortable as can be
While we reminisce days lived
And sip on Christmas tea.

We’d laugh and bond around a fire
Imprint our hearts as friends
We’d hug and slap each other’s backs
And when the night does end

You’d bundle up against the cold
I’d send you on your way
So glad I have whom I call friends
On this merry Christmas day.
